The Joe Lewis Story:  As a heavyweight World Champion fighter and martial artist, Joe Lewis has done it first and done it best. Of the millions of people who have participated in the martial arts since their inception in the United States in 1948, only a few have had a measurable impact with the general public…and Joe Lewis is at the top of this list.  Lewis began his training in Okinawa studying with three instructors: Eizo Shimabuku, Kinjo Chinsaku and Seiyu Oyata and he also studied with the late great Bruce Lee. In a career that spanned 17 years, he won more titles, set more records and instituted more innovations than anyone in the history of Sport Karate.  Lewis has been inducted into 13 various Halls of Fame to include the Black Belt Hall of Fame as “Fighter of the year” and “Instructor of the year.” In a Karate Illustrated survey of America’s top fighters, he was chosen by his peers as “The Greatest Karate Fighter of All Time.” American Karate Magazine considered Joe Lewis “a Living Legend”.” Lewis has won 2 North Carolina Governors’ awards for his efforts in crime prevention. Joe Lewis is without a doubt the most respected name in American Martial Arts.  Lewis travels the world teaching cutting edge seminars. His research has led to his producing over 25 one of a kind instructional video tapes. Currently, Mr. Lewis is actively expanding his association with a vision of traditional values and modern day theory. He continues to develop his teaching in the mental aspect of the art so as to expand his student’s strategic thinking and mental energies.  We Lost Grandmaster Lewis last year on Friday, August 31, 2012. He was 68 years old.  Everyone that new him took it hard. Joe was a true warrior that Served His Country and became a Martial Arts Hero. He was a not just a great fighter he was a world champion fighter and best of all One Of The Best Teachers Of Martial Arts.  He will be missed but never forgotten.   R.I.P.  Master Lewis

Instructor Coleman Ray holds a 3rd Dan Black Belt under Grandmaster Joe Lewis & Susan Ray holds a 1st Dan under Grandmaster Lewis.

Two of Coleman Ray Instructors, that have made a huge impact in his life. ,Grand Master Joe Lewis & Master Mike Kanarek . Instructors like this have really helped him grow as a student and as a teacher in the martial arts and fitness world.  Both of these men always pushed me to my breaking point so many times and because of them I am a better student and teacher today.
